Frequently Asked Questions

Are you accepting clients in person?

Yes! My office is at 175 Cedar Lane in Bergen County, NJ. My NY practice is all virtual. Learn about virtual therapy sessions here.

What are your fees for a session?

My fee is $300.

How long are sessions?

45 minutes.

Do you take insurance?

No, I do not accept any insurances. I work as an out of network provider. This means that if you have out of network benefits for mental health services, you can get a percentage reimbursed. This will depend on your personal deductible and at what rate your insurance company provides reimbursement. At the end of the month, I can provide an invoice with all the necessary information that you can submit for reimbursement.

How do I find out if I have out of network benefits?

Here are some questions you can ask your insurance company to find out whether or not you have out of network benefits:

  1. Do I have out of network benefits for mental health services?
  2. What is my deductible for out of network providers?
  3. What is the rate of reimbursement after the deductible is met?
  4. How do I file for reimbursement?

What is your cancellation policy?

I have a 2 business day (48 hour) policy. Appointments for Monday and Tuesday must be cancelled the previous week. If you cancel your appointment within that window, the full amount for the session will be charged.

How do I set up an appointment?

Please reach out to me via my website, email, or phone. We will set up a time to connect over the phone for a brief consult. During that phone call, we discuss details like scheduling.

How often do we meet?

Frequency of meetings are based on individual needs. Typically we meet once a week. For some, 2-3 times per week works better. I don’t usually meet every other week.

Why don’t you do every other week or monthly?

I find that therapy is most helpful when we have momentum. Once we transition to meeting infrequently, sessions take on a “catch up” nature and we never actually get to get work done. For the most part, I don’t do “maintenance” therapy. We do real, deep work that requires motivation and commitment.

What do you actually do in sessions with clients?

I usually leave sessions open ended. This means that you lead the session with whatever is on your mind. If that seems like a challenge, we work with what we’ve got! You don’t always need to come in with a list of what you want to talk about. What I find is important though, that I don’t lead with my own agenda. If I insert my goals, hopes, and interests we take the focus away from you. Therapy is a space where your mind is our biggest asset. We need to make room for it to go wherever it needs to go. Nothing you say is silly or unimportant. It’s all information.

What modalities do you use? I heard CBT is good and EMDR is the only way to process trauma.

Here’s the short answer: I don’t usually use CBT and I never use EMDR. If you’re wondering, I’m trained in psychodynamic psychotherapy. Does that help? If it does, cool beans. If not, you’re the majority. In general, I try not to use clinical jargon because it doesn't actually mean much to most of us. I listen. I understand. I help you make sense of your life. I help you process difficult emotions. I help you explore your past experiences and how they affect your current self. I work with you to figure out the stuff you’re here to figure out.

Do you work with adolescents?

I currently see only adults. If you are looking for someone who specializes in adolescents, I’m not your gal! I’m happy to provide a referral.

Do you only work with eating disorders?

Nope! I work a lot with eating disorders and disordered eating but not completely! Some peeps are dealing with depression or anxiety. Others just want someone who will get into the deep work and they don’t have an official diagnosis. Which, let’s be honest, usually is completely arbitrary. But that’s for another time. Go ahead and reach out to see if we’ll be a good fit!
